These are two Variants Covers for Koinophobia and Awakening I recently made. Think of them as creative outlets/cover design practice, because that’s what I did.

Thanks for listening!
That’s right, I have finally joined the Patreon ranks!
For those of you who might not know, Patreon is a website in which you can become my patron, pledging a fixed amount of cash every month (from as little as $1 to an astounding $500) in order to help me create higher quality books and pursue my dream of becoming a full-time author.
The donations are not just for a warm fuzzy feeling either, as each tier of patronage ($1, $2, $25 etc) unlocks awesome rewards including monthly series ideas (think story ideas on steroids!), personalized acknowledgements in my upcoming novels and even early access to forthcoming books!
The main reason I have decided to join Patreon is that I want to be able to hire an editor and cover artist/illustrator for my books so that they will be more enjoyable to read and hopefully contain a lot less typos! Additionally, as I have decided to create and sell my books for free, all expenses come out of my own pocket. I want my fans to have access to my novels, and at the moment, the best way to do that is to have them remain free to download.
Ultimately, I write novels and poems because I love creating new stories and expressing my creativity in different ways. I am not doing this because I want to be rich and famous (although that would be nice), I am doing this because I simply want to write and publish the best books I can. If your $1 helps me do that, then my gratitude would know no bounds.
If you want to check out my Patreon site and (fingers crossed!) become a patron, head on over to https://www.patreon.com/haydenpearton
If you have any feedback regarding Patreon or anything else, feel free to shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
After much deliberation and consideration, I have decided to permanently change the prices of Awakening and Koinophobia from $0.99 to FREE effective immediately.
However, due to Amazon having a minimum price of $0.99, this change will only occur on the Smashwords site and its distribution sites (e.g. Apple iBooks).
Therefore, if you simply desire to try Awakening and Koinophobia out with no financial investment, use the Smashwords site. If you feel like showing your support, then please feel free to use the Amazon site (I will be incredibly grateful either way, I assure you).

It is said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It’s called living.
-The Man Himself
While doing some reflecting, I was reminded why I became a writer in the first place.
The books I read as a child, the worlds that were opened to me, the stories that changed my life: all of these things I want to share with you.
And who else could I start with but with my greatest inspiration?
Terry Pratchett, to me, is the ultimate role model. Creative, funny and incredibly clever, he showed me the value in forging your own literary path. While others wrote of cookie-cutter medieval worlds and bland murder mysteries, Terry captivated a generation with world-turtles and amazing, off-beat heroes.
From the powerless, eternal coward wizzard to the dwarf-raised red headed rightful king policeman, his characters constantly defied the norm and evoked a sense of wonder and mirth.
His stories were a masterful blend of quiet introspection, genre defying twists and cleverly worded satire. Each story had a point, a purpose and a commentary on something all of us can relate to.
He inspired countless authors. Among them, me.
More than anyone else, Terry Pratchett made me want to become a writer.
My dream, at the time, was to one day meet him and have him acknowledge my writing. Sadly, after a long and happy life, he left this world for the next.
So, while I will never meet him in person, I still strive to write stories that he would consider interesting and perhaps even extraordinary.
Rest in Peace, my hero…
Below I have included some of my favourite books written by Terry Pratchett, I hope that you give them a read (you won’t be disappointed):
- The Colour of Magic/The Light Fantastic
- Guards Guards!
- Interesting Times
- The Last Continent
- The Last Hero
May he fill the afterlife with countless tales of wonder and joy.

Through Fire, Through Ice, Through Deepest Despair, Never Lose Your Stride!
I came up with this while stuck in traffic, so be nice.
As always, if this story inspires you to write something (and I hope it does) or if you wish to develop this story further (and I hope you do), a small acknowledgement would be great!
And so, without further ado, here is “Through His Eyes”:
The story opens with a look at our protagonist, Brandon Hawes, a 36 year old man who has never had a girlfriend, works in a dead-end job and lives with his parents. His misfortune comes to a head when he is involved in an accident and his body is badly damaged. Barely alive, he consents to be a Guinea pig for a radical new procedure: a full brain transplant.
His brain is extracted and implanted into the body of Lucas King, a 25 year old man who suffered blunt force trauma to the head (while rock climbing) and fell into a vegetative coma.
As Brandon recovers and slowly comes to term with his new body, he meets Chloe, Lucas’ fiancée, who is shocked to see “Lucas” alive and well. Begging Brandon to stay with her family while he recovers, she confides in him that she never got the chance to say goodbye to Lucas and wants to spend some more time with “him”.
Brandon meets Lucas’ family and discovers that Lucas’ life was nothing like his. Lucas, a successful athlete, had been living his life to the fullest before his accident. Over the next few days, Brandon grows closer to Chloe (who calls him Lucas) and notices that his body acts strangely whenever she is near (his heart beats faster, he automatically holds her hand and this culminates with him accidentally kissing her). Brandon decides to live as Lucas did, reveling in the life he always dreamed of.
However, with Lucas’ funeral drawing closer, Brandon begins to feel as though his identity is fading and Lucas’ is becoming more and more pronounced. Fleeing Chloe, he returns to his parents who greet him with surprise, but ultimately accept him despite his new body and tell him that he will always be their son.
Returning to Chloe’s house, he attends Lucas’ funeral, during which a tearful Chloe states that she loves him. However, Brandon tells her that he is not Lucas, nor will he ever be her lost lover. She comes to realize that in her grief, she had begun to see Brandon as Lucas.
Brandon then reveals the truth: the night of his accident he had been on his way to commit suicide. After the transplant, he had begun to see things differently (through Lucas’ eyes) and resolves to better himself.
As both Brandon and Chloe say their farewells to Lucas, they go their separate ways, but acknowledge that the bond formed by Lucas (their common link) will never truly fade.
Thank you for listening.
