Another day, another murder mystery.

As always, if this story inspires you to write (and I hope it does) or if you decide to take this story further (and I hope you do), a small acknowledgement would be great!

And so, without further ado, here is “The Sapphire Locket”:

The Sapphire Locket tells the story of a woman, Greta Meiro, who is haunted by visions of her deceased twin sister, Tabitha, who was recently murdered (she was set alight, her killer is still at large. Her prized possession, a sapphire locket, is given to Greta following her death). After the local police dismiss her claims as due to grief, Greta enlists the help of a local washed out detective, Nicholas Furie (his failure to catch a notorious serial killer, The Matchman, cost him his reputation and his marriage).

Together they begin investigating Tabitha’s death. They soon discover that Tabitha’s killer used a similar M.O. (modus operandi) to that of The Matchman.

As the bodies start pilling up, the race to find the killer heats up. After a tense chase through an abandoned firework factory, Greta and Nicholas are able to catch the killer, Vincent Teague, a young mentally disturbed man who grew up idolizing The Matchman. As the police announce that the case has been closed, Greta begins to doubt the resolution (Vincent does not claim all of the victims as his own).

Returning to Tabitha’s scene of death, Greta receives a vision from her sister that shows that it couldn’t have been Vincent. Returning to Nicholas, they soon discover that the real killer (The Matchman) was deliberately altering his M.O. to that of Vincent’s, in order to elude the police.

Realizing who the killer is (Vincent’s father, Dominic. Vincent would secretly watch Dominic plan and execute his murders and was thus able to almost perfectly recreate his methods). After a climactic chase (returning to the firework factory. The Teague family once owned it until new legislation banned the fireworks, sending the family into poverty. Dominic initially murdered the people responsible for his family’s downfall but grew to love killing people with fire) , Dominic is caught and Greta is able to make peace with Tabitha, who says goodbye and departs. Nicholas and Greta part ways, both ready to move on and start anew.

Thanks for listening! The next story idea is “Fracture”, look forward to it!
