Did You Know that the prologue is the most rewritten section of Awakening?

First impressions are important, after all.

Even the name of the chapter was different. Initially, it was “Kingdom of One”, which was meant to evoke Barsch’s isolation and unique existence. It was later changed to “Kingdom of None” to reflect the bleak world devoid of humans that he would find.

The first draft of the prologue was overly dramatic, relying heavily on obscure metaphors while saying very little about the book’s setting. After several revisions the current prologue emerged, with its mix of drama and factual information, it is meant to both draw the reader in and clearly explain the state of the world. At last, it was a first impression that I was satisfied with.

And when it comes to first impressions, remember that you only get one chance, so take your time and make it good!

Thanks for listening! Our next Did You Know concerns the name of the series itself! Look forward to it!
